ABC-CDP has advocated for improved farming skills through training of local farmers and introduction of new farming technologies. Trainings include Drip irrigation, Conservation farming, Agro forestry, Post harvest management & Fish farming. The program has three Agricultural Resource & Technology Centers (ARTCs) in Machakos (showground), Chumvini and Kibwezi which serve as training centers for Clergy and farmers in the region. The farms have demonstration plots where farmers can learn. Among other things farmers are taught on kitchen gardens, grafting of fruit trees, conservation farming etc. The program has in conjunction with CRS and CBM/CIDA provided farmers with certified seeds for planting to ensure increased yields.
Sustainable Farming
Active networking with Government Ministries (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries) and other organizations e.g KARI, KEFRI, ICRAF to promote sustainable farming has led to the formation of 57 agro forestry nurseries with indigenous and fruit seedlings for income generation.
Environment Conservation
Additionally, farmers from various groups in the program have been supported to acquire quality breeds of livestock (cows & goats) for improved milk yields. The program in partnership with local communities has begun 57 agro forestry groups. These groups have been supported with trainings and equipment including silos, planting bags, money maker pumps, hose pipes, drip irrigation kits and chain links.
