ABC Empowerment Sacco
The ABC Empowerment Sacco is the financial and investment arm of the Africa Brotherhood Church (ABC), dedicated to the socioeconomic transformation of the members through savings and credit services.
Core Identity and Operations
Status: It is a Regulated Non-Withdrawable Deposit-Taking (Non-WDT) Sacco.
Governance: Regulated by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) and supervised by the Machakos County Directorate of Cooperative Development.
Leadership: Managed by an elected 9-member committee; it holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April every year to review its operations and financial performance.
Key Products and Impact
Micro-Credit Scheme: Originating from a 2007 church initiative, this scheme has trained over 4,300 people in small business management and provided loans to over 1,100 members for income-generating activities.
Clean Energy Loans: In partnership with Mwangaza Light, the Sacco has provided over 350 loans for clean cookstoves and solar solutions to church leaders and members.
Value Addition Training: Supports numerous groups (predominantly women) in marketing locally made products such as woven baskets, pottery, and carvings.
Sustainability Focus: Promotes a savings culture to help members achieve both short- and long-term financial goals.
Membership Information:
Membership: Open to individuals, groups, and SMEs associated with the church, typically requiring a registration fee, national ID copy, and minimum monthly contributions.
